when ever you write a character do you ever give them hobbies or characteristics that you don't have and if you do, how do you learn how to write a person with those hobbies or characteristics. Like when a guy writes a naruto fic where naruto like to garden but he knows nothing about gardening.

For example I was searching for an avatar wallpaper for my desktop (I never found a good one on that day though) and found out about ff.net, so how did you discover fan-fiction ?
